Hotel Etiquette to Follow when Traveling with Pets
Bringing your pets for vacation is a great way to gain new memories and not to forget that you do not have to be guilty to death that you have left your pet in a home, not knowing how they are doing and how much they are doing missing you. On the other hand, many citizens prefer to travel with pets, and studies show that one out of three citizens who own a pet prefers to hit the road only with their pets. Since we have newer preferences for traveling, we should know some basic etiquettes when it comes to traveling with pets. Here are some:
Goal is to get invited back
Remember, no matter where you go with your pet, the ultimate goal is to be invited back by the place that is hosting you. It could include the place you stay or dine and the places you visit with your pet. In order to do this, the first approach would be to research every single destination. You might like to go with the moment and take life adventurously but not anymore with your pets. One of the biggest problems faced by pet owners is not researching well on their accommodation options. Not every hotel allows pets. Therefore, make a list of possible places to stay and ensure to book in advance and, most importantly – learn their policies too. If the policy does not suit you, then you have to look for other options immediately. Secondly, hotels will also insist on a deposit. Save yourself the embarrassment and do not argue or negotiate with this figure.
Medical check
Ensure you take your pet to the vet just 15 to 20 days before your travel date. That way, you can be sure that your pet is physically fit. Have your pet also treated for fleas so that you do not infest your vehicle and the hotels where you stop. In addition to this, ensure to carry all the required paper works because certain destination in the country requires that you provide a “medically fit” certificate for your pets to enter the state.
Carrying the must-haves
The idea is to make your pet feel at home wherever you take them. This is largely possible only if you bring a piece of your home to your vacation. For example, figure out all your pet’s favorites – could be toys, their bed, blanket or cushion, etc. The smell of home will make them feel safe and secure. That way, your pets will not end up chewing on other furniture or tear cushions, especially where you stay. In addition, bring their favorite food so that they feel comfortable. Not every hotel provides food bowls. Hence the best bet would be to carry one.
Do not leave them alone
The idea of bringing your pet on vacation is to be with them. If you are leaving them all alone in your hotel room, the chances are that they would get restless, and if it is a dog, they will bark endlessly. If a situation brings you to leave your pet alone – check with your hotel and hire a professional pet sitter so that your pet continues to be in the best behavior.
Littering rules
One of the basic rules of etiquette when it comes to traveling with your pet is to take care of their toilet needs. You do not want to ruin your hotel room or a restaurant. Therefore, make it a point to walk your pet just before they go to sleep and the first activity once they wake up in the morning. Take them for a few rounds of walk during the day so that they can release themselves. If you are bringing cats, ensure you clean the litter pan frequently. You do not want the smells to waft down the halls.
The above mention are few of the hotel etiquettes you will have follow when traveling with pets.
